With his list of accomplishments in the area of wine connoisseurship and wine service, Larry Stone brings a new perspective to winemaking in California. Sirita's first vintages have been found in such restaurants as Charlie Trotter's, Gramercy Tavern, Nobu, Alain Ducasse's Spoons in Paris and London, Patina and Spago in Los Angeles, Postrio, Aqua, Gary Danko, Masa's and the Fifth Floor in San Francisco. Larry has been making wine under the Sirita label since the 1997 vintage but he began as a teenager at home by making wine following Maynard Amerine's classic text on winemaking. From 1993 to 1995 he was responsible for blending the wines that were sold under the label of Deux Chapeaux. His love of American wine is tempered by his knowledge of wines from all over the world, and in particular by his love of the classic wine regions of Europe.
Larry Stone is the first American to win the title of International Best Sommelier in French Wines and Spirits at a competition held in Paris and sponsored by Foods and Wines from France. M. Piot writing in the French newspaper,
Le Monde, reported that Mr. Stone won by virtue of his "computer-like mind" and ability to make exciting combinations of food and wine. But even more importantly, Mr. Stone is famous for his low-key, approachable attitude about wine.
Mr. Stone is also the only American to have earned the title of French Master Sommelier from the Union de la Sommelerie Francaise.
